Walking
To reach Dunguaire Castle from central Ennis, start at the Ennis Cathedral. Head east on the Abbey Street towards the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the N85. Continue walking along the N85 until you reach the bus stop at the 'Ennis Bus Station'. From there, board the bus heading towards Kinvara. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Kinvara bus stop, exit the bus and walk towards the coast. Follow the signs to Dunguaire Castle, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Keep an eye out for the castle's distinct tower as you near your destination.
Bicycle
If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Ennis. Start at the Ennis Town Park and head towards the N85. Follow the same route as for walking, cycling along the N85 towards Kinvara. Be cautious of traffic, as this is a busy road. Once in Kinvara, follow the signs to Dunguaire Castle. The total distance from Ennis to the castle is about 12 km, and it should take you around 45 minutes to 1 hour to cycle there.
Public Transport
From Ennis, you can take a bus to Kinvara. Make your way to the Ennis Bus Station located on Station Road. Look for a bus service that operates to Kinvara; this is usually Bus Éireann. Purchase a ticket, and the ride will take around 30 minutes. Once you disembark at Kinvara, follow the signs directing you to Dunguaire Castle. It’s a short 15-minute walk from the bus stop, and you’ll see the castle's tower from a distance as you approach.
