Getting there

Car

If you are driving, start from Killarney town center and head southwest on the N71 road. Follow the signs for the Ring of Kerry. After approximately 8 km, turn left onto the R563 toward Kate Kearney's Cottage. Continue for about 3 km until you arrive at the entrance to the Killarney National Park. Park your car at one of the designated parking areas near the park entrance. From there, follow the marked walking trails toward Dunloe Upper. Auger Lake is approximately a 30-minute hike from the parking area, with stunning views along the way.

Public Transportation

To reach Auger Lake using public transportation, take a bus from Killarney town to the nearby village of Beaufort. You can use the Bus Éireann service that operates between Killarney and Tralee, which stops in Beaufort. Once you arrive in Beaufort, you will need to walk approximately 4 km to reach the entrance of Killarney National Park. From there, follow the walking trails to Auger Lake, which will take about 30 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as it may vary throughout the day.

Walking/Hiking

If you are already within Killarney National Park, you can reach Auger Lake by following the walking trails. Starting from the Muckross House area, take the trail that leads toward the Gap of Dunloe. The hike will take you around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Keep an eye out for directional signs along the trails to ensure you remain on the right path. The views are breathtaking, and you may encounter wildlife along the way.
