Walking

The Kenmare Stone Circle is located a short walk from the center of Kenmare town. From the Kenmare Tourist Office, walk towards Cromwell Bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn left; the entrance to the Stone Circle is a short distance on the right. The walk is approximately 5 minutes. Entrance to the circle is €2, payable at the entrance.
Public Transport

Kenmare is accessible by Bus Éireann from major towns like Killarney. From the Kenmare bus stop in the town center, the Stone Circle is a 5-10 minute walk. Follow the directions in the 'Walking' guidance above to reach the site. Bus fare from Killarney to Kenmare ranges from €6-€10. A local link Kerry bus also services this route once a week.
Parking

If driving, parking is available near the Kenmare Stone Circle. There is a car park and overspill green car park. Daytime parking is available, and there is no height restriction. There is a coffee booth and fresh water. Parking costs €5.

Unlike other stone circles in Munster, its egg shape sets it apart. The circle consists of 15 stones, 13 standing and two fallen, arranged in an almost perfect circle. At the heart of the circle is a large boulder-dolmen with a giant capstone measuring 2m x 1.8m, possibly marking a burial site. This type of burial is mainly found in South Munster.While the exact purpose of the Kenmare Stone Circle remains unknown, various theories attempt to explain its significance. Some believe the stones were used for astronomical observations, aligning with solar events like the winter solstice. Others suggest the circle served as a marker for important community events.
