Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest town, Newry. Head southwest on the A1 towards Belfast. After approximately 5 miles, take the exit for the B8 towards Hilltown. Follow the B8 for around 7 miles until you reach the Mourne Mountains. Look for signs directing you towards the hiking trails. There is no designated parking at the base of Luke's Mountain, so park at one of the nearby car parks, such as the one at Donard Park, which is around 2 miles away from the mountain trailhead.
Public Transportation
To reach Luke's Mountain via public transportation, take a bus from Newry to Hilltown. Translink operates services on this route (check their website for the latest schedules). Once you arrive in Hilltown, you will need to walk approximately 2 miles towards the Mourne Mountains. The walk will take you through beautiful countryside, but ensure you have a map or GPS to guide you toward the mountain trails.
Walking
If you have parked at Donard Park, begin your hike from there. Follow the well-marked paths leading into the Mourne Mountains. The trail to Luke's Mountain is primarily a steep ascent, so be prepared for a challenging hike. It will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Make sure to bring water and snacks, and check the weather conditions before you set out.
