From Sligo town, take the Bus Eireann Route 480 towards Strandhill. The bus departs from the Sligo Bus Station located at Quay Street. Ensure you check the schedule for the latest departure times. After approximately 20 minutes, get off at the stop for Knocknarea (the stop is near the entrance to the hiking area). From there, follow the signs leading to the trailhead of Knocknarea, which is a short walk away.

If you prefer to walk, start in the center of Sligo and head towards the River Garavogue. Follow the riverbank towards the west until you reach the N4 road. Continue walking along the footpath of the N4 towards the Strandhill Road (R292). After about 2.5 kilometers, you will see signs for Knocknarea. Follow the signs to the trailhead, which is well-marked and accessible.

For those who wish to cycle, you can rent a bike in Sligo town. Start by heading west on the N4, then turn onto the R292 towards Strandhill. After about 2.5 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Knocknarea. The cycling route is relatively flat and suitable for most cyclists. Once you reach the entrance to the hiking area, you can park your bike and start your hike up the hill.
