Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Sligo town. Head southwest on the N4 road towards the town of Collooney. As you approach Collooney, take the exit for the N59 towards Ballina and continue on this road for approximately 5 kilometers. Then, turn left onto the R292 towards Strandhill. Follow the R292, which will lead you directly to Strandhill village. Once in Strandhill, follow the signs for the beach and you will find Strandhill Dunes located at Carrowdough, just a short distance from the beach parking area. Parking is available at the beach, and there might be a small fee depending on the time of year.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Sligo town to Strandhill. Bus Eireann operates a service that runs frequently between Sligo and Strandhill. Board the bus at the Sligo Bus Station and stay on the bus for approximately 20 minutes. Disembark at the Strandhill stop. From there, it is a short walk to the beach area where Strandhill Dunes are located. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time, as service may vary, and ensure you have the correct fare ready for your journey.
Walking
If you find yourself in Strandhill village, walking to Strandhill Dunes is quite straightforward. From the main beach area, walk towards the dunes, following the paths that lead directly to the sand dunes. The walk is scenic and offers beautiful views of the coastline. It should take you no more than 10-15 minutes to reach the dunes from the beach.
