The buses to Kilkenny run several times a day, so check the timetable for the next departure. The journey will take approximately 1 hour. After arriving at Kilkenny bus station, you can either walk or take a local taxi to explore the city.
Train
From Waterford, you can also take a train to Kilkenny. Start by walking to the Waterford Train Station, which is located on the outskirts of the city. You can follow the signs to the station from the city center. At the train station, purchase a ticket to Kilkenny. Trains usually run a few times a day, so make sure to check the schedule ahead of time. The train ride will take about 1 hour. Upon arriving at Kilkenny Train Station, it's a short walk into the city center, where you can start exploring.
Walking/Biking
If you're feeling adventurous and up for a long journey, you can walk or bike to Kilkenny. The route from Waterford to Kilkenny is approximately 40 kilometers and takes you through the scenic countryside. Start from the center of Waterford and follow the N25 out of the city, then take the R697 towards Kilkenny. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water and snacks for the trip, as it will take several hours to reach your destination this way.
