Bus
From your current location in Modi'in, walk to the nearest bus stop (check local signage for the closest one). Take bus number 5 towards Jerusalem. The bus will make several stops, but you should stay on for approximately 30 minutes. When the bus arrives at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, disembark. From there, follow the signs to the light rail station, and board the light rail towards 'Hebrew University'. Get off at the 'Damascus Gate' stop, which is the second stop. You will see the Damascus Gate right in front of you.
Light Rail
If you're near the Modi'in light rail station, board the light rail heading towards 'Jerusalem' (make sure to check the schedule). After about 45 minutes, you will arrive at the 'Damascus Gate' station. Exit the train, and as you step off, you will find yourself at the foot of the historic Damascus Gate.
Walking
If you are staying in the central area of Modi'in, you can also walk to the nearest bus stop, then take bus 5 to Jerusalem Central Bus Station. From there, you can either take the light rail to Damascus Gate or walk. If you choose to walk, head east on Yaffo Street, which will lead you directly to the Old City and the Damascus Gate after about a 20-minute walk.
