To reach Safed from Tiberias, start by walking to the Tiberias Central Bus Station, which is located on HaGalil St. Once there, look for the bus to Safed (Safed is called 'Tzfat' in Hebrew). The buses run regularly, but it’s best to check the schedule on the Egged website or at the station. After boarding the bus, enjoy the scenic ride that takes around 30-40 minutes. The bus will drop you off at the main bus station in Safed, from which you can easily explore the Old City on foot.
Shared Taxi (Sherut)
Another option is to take a shared taxi, known as a 'sherut'. To find the sherut to Safed, head to the Tiberias Central Bus Station. Look for the sherut stand or ask locals for assistance. The sherut usually seats around 10 passengers and leaves when full, making it a quicker option compared to the bus. The ride to Safed takes about 30 minutes, and you'll be dropped off in the city center, from where you can walk to the Old City.
Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and have the time, you can also hike from Tiberias to Safed. Start from the Tiberias promenade and follow the path leading up the hills. It's a challenging hike of approximately 10 kilometers, taking around 3-4 hours. Make sure to carry enough water and wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy the beautiful views along the way as you ascend towards Safed.
