Car
To reach Cima Piccola by car, start from the city of Bolzano. Head northwest on the A22 highway towards Brennero. Take Exit 18 for Vipiteno/Sterzing. Continue on SS44 towards Ratschings. Follow the signs for Ratschings and after approximately 30 minutes, you will reach the village of Ratschings. From Ratschings, follow the signs for the Cima Piccola trailhead. There is parking available near the trailhead, but note that parking fees may apply, typically around €5 for a day.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a train from Bolzano to Vipiteno. The train ride takes about 45 minutes. From Vipiteno, you can catch a local bus (Bus 312) that goes directly to Ratschings. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once in Ratschings, follow the signs to the Cima Piccola trailhead. Ensure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as buses may not run frequently, especially on weekends.
Hiking from Ratschings
Once you reach the trailhead in Ratschings, prepare for a hike to Cima Piccola. The trail is well-marked and takes about 2-3 hours to ascend, depending on your pace. The hike is moderately challenging, so ensure you have appropriate footwear and water. Along the way, enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. There is no entry fee to hike this trail, but ensure to carry a map or have a GPS app for navigation.
