Walking
If you are starting from the Basilica of San Francesco, head southeast on Viale Giosuè Carducci towards Via Frate Elia. Continue straight until you reach Via San Francesco. Turn left onto Via San Francesco and proceed until you reach the main square, Piazza del Comune. From the square, take Via Santa Chiara, and then turn right onto Via Cardinale Raffaele Merry del Val. Continue straight, and you will arrive at Porta San Giacomo in approximately 15-20 minutes.

Starting from the Assisi train station, exit the station and head towards the bus stop where local buses depart for the city center. Take any bus that heads to the main square, Piazza del Comune. Once you arrive at the square, follow the instructions from the previous option to reach Porta San Giacomo.

From the Basilica di Santa Chiara, exit the basilica and walk towards the main road, Via Santa Chiara. Turn left and walk until you reach Piazza del Comune. At the square, take Via Cardinale Raffaele Merry del Val, which will lead you directly to Porta San Giacomo. The walk should take around 10-15 minutes.

If you are at the Eremo delle Carceri, exit the hermitage and head down the path towards the main road. Follow the signs towards Assisi and continue walking until you reach Via San Francesco. From there, follow the directions to Piazza del Comune and finally to Porta San Giacomo as detailed above.
