Getting There

Walking
From the main square of Assisi (Piazza del Comune), head southwest on Via Portica. Continue straight until you reach Via San Francesco. Turn left onto Via San Francesco and walk for about 400 meters until you reach the Basilica of San Francesco. From there, follow the signs towards San Damiano, which is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the basilica. The path will take you through the beautiful countryside, and you will see signs directing you to San Damiano. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk there.

If you are near the Basilica di Santa Chiara, start by walking down the hill towards the center of Assisi. Once you reach the intersection at Via San Francesco, turn right and follow the signs towards San Damiano. The walk is about 1.2 kilometers and should take around 15-20 minutes. Enjoy the scenic views along the way as you make your way to this historic site.

From the train station (Stazione di Assisi), exit and head towards the town center. Walk uphill towards Via G. Garibaldi. Continue along this road until you reach the intersection with Via San Francesco. Turn left and follow the previous walking directions towards the Basilica of San Francesco. From there, proceed to San Damiano as outlined above. The entire journey from the station to San Damiano is about 2.5 kilometers and will take roughly 35-45 minutes.
