Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi, located at Piazza San Francesco. Head west on Via San Francesco and continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Via del Comune. Turn left onto Via del Comune and follow it as it curves. Continue straight until you reach the junction with Via Santa Chiara. Turn right onto Via Santa Chiara and follow this street as it leads you uphill. After about 300 meters, you will come to a fork in the path. Take the left path that leads directly to Rocca Maggiore. The fortress will be visible as you approach, and you can follow the signs that will guide you to the entrance.

  • Walking

    If you are near the Piazza del Comune, start at the central fountain. From the fountain, head southeast on Via Bartolomeo d'Alviano. Walk straight until you reach the junction with Via della Rocca. Turn left onto Via della Rocca. Continue walking uphill for about 400 meters. You will see the entrance to Rocca Maggiore on your right. Follow the signs leading you to the main entrance of the fortress.

    From the Assisi train station, exit and walk towards Via G. Mazzini. Head up Via G. Mazzini until it merges into Via del Carmine. Continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the Piazza del Comune. From there, follow the previous directions to reach Rocca Maggiore via Via Santa Chiara or Via del Comune.
