Walking
From the central train station of Bergamo (Stazione di Bergamo), exit the station and head towards Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII. Continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Via Camozzi. Turn left onto Via Camozzi and walk for about 500 meters. This street will lead you to the lively area of the Città Bassa. Once you reach the corner of Via Camozzi and Via XX Settembre, continue straight until you reach the Città Alta entrance. Ascend the hill using the funicular railway (Funicolare Bergamo Alta) located at the end of Via B. Colleoni. After a short ride, you will arrive in Città Alta. From the funicular station, head straight towards Piazza della Cittadella, then turn left onto Via Colleoni. Continue straight until you reach the heart of the old town and finally arrive at Piazza dei Mercanti.

From Bergamo's central train station (Stazione di Bergamo), catch the bus number 1 towards ‘Città Alta’. The bus departs frequently, and the journey takes about 20 minutes. Get off at the last stop, which is near the entrance of the Città Alta. After exiting the bus, walk straight towards the funicular station. Take the funicular up to Città Alta. Once at the top, walk straight ahead to Piazza della Cittadella, then turn left onto Via Colleoni, which will lead you directly to Piazza dei Mercanti.

To reach Piazza dei Mercanti using only the funicular, first make your way to the lower funicular station located at Viale Vittorio Emanuele II. From there, take the funicular railway to the top, which takes about 8 minutes. Once you arrive in Città Alta, exit the funicular station and walk towards Piazza della Cittadella. After reaching the square, take a left onto Via Colleoni. Continue straight, and you will find yourself in Piazza dei Mercanti.
