Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Train
If you are in the Cinque Terre region, the best way to move between the villages is by using the local train service. From any of the villages—Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, or Riomaggiore—head to the nearest train station. Trains run frequently throughout the day, typically every 20-30 minutes. For example, if you are in Vernazza, walk to the Vernazza train station located at Via Roma, 19018 Vernazza. Purchase a ticket to your desired destination, such as Manarola or Monterosso. Once you have your ticket, board the train, and enjoy the scenic ride along the coastline. The journey between villages is short, usually taking no more than 10 minutes.
Hiking
For those looking to explore on foot, the hiking trails between the villages offer stunning views of the coastline and vineyards. From Vernazza, follow the signs to Monterosso al Mare via the Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Trail). The trail is approximately 1.5 hours long. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water. Along the way, you'll find breathtaking vistas, so bring your camera! If you're heading to Manarola from Corniglia, the hike is about 1 hour and offers a beautiful journey through nature. Note that some trails may be closed due to maintenance, so check local updates before starting your hike.
Boat
Another delightful way to travel between the villages of Cinque Terre is by taking a boat. From Vernazza, head to the waterfront where you will find the ferry service. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office near the harbor. The boat ride offers an incredible perspective of the villages from the sea and takes about 25 minutes to reach Monterosso or Manarola. Make sure to check the schedule as boat services may vary depending on weather conditions.
