Piazza Santo Stefano, a historical and architectural gem in Bologna, is more accurately described as a widening of Via Santo Stefano rather than a conventional square. Its alternative name, Piazza delle Sette Chiese, alludes to the Basilica di Santo Stefano, a complex of interconnected religious structures that dominate the space. While originally comprising seven churches, only four remain today.The Basilica's origins trace back to the 5th century, potentially established by Bishop Petronius on a former pagan site.
