Piazzale Michelangelo: A Panoramic Gem in Florence

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in the historic center of Florence, a great option is to walk to Piazzale Michelangelo. Start from Piazza della Signoria, one of the main squares. Head southeast on Via dei Neri, then turn left onto Via dei Gondi. After a short walk, you will reach the Arno River. Cross the river using the Ponte Vecchio. Once across, continue straight onto Via Guicciardini. Follow this road as it bends left into Lungarno degli Archibusieri. Continue along the river until you reach the traffic circle at Piazza Giuseppe Poggi. From here, take the steep road leading up to Piazzale Michelangelo, which will take about 15-20 minutes of walking uphill.

• Bus

  To reach Piazzale Michelangelo by bus, head to the nearest bus stop in the city center, such as at Santa Maria Novella train station. Take bus number 12 or 13 towards 'Piazzale Michelangelo'. The ride takes about 15-20 minutes. Once you arrive at the Piazzale Michelangelo stop, you will be right at the entrance to the plaza, where you can enjoy stunning views of Florence.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more comfortable option, you can take a taxi or use a rideshare app like Uber. Simply request a ride to 'Piazzale Michelangelo'. The ride will take approximately 10 minutes from the city center, depending on traffic. This is a good option if you are traveling with luggage or prefer not to walk uphill.

• Biking

  If you are feeling adventurous, you can rent a bike from one of the many bike rental stations in Florence. Start from the city center and follow the same route as walking: cross the Ponte Vecchio, then take Lungarno degli Archibusieri and follow the road to Piazza Giuseppe Poggi. From there, you can bike up to Piazzale Michelangelo. The bike ride will take about 20-25 minutes, and there are bike racks available at the Piazzale for you to lock your bike.
