Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head to the town of Valsavarenche in the Aosta Valley. From Aosta, take the SS26 road towards Courmayeur. After about 25 km, turn right onto the SP24 road towards Valsavarenche. Continue on this road for approximately 12 km until you reach the hamlet of Pont. From Pont, follow the signs for Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II, which is about 6 km up the winding mountain road (also known as the 'Strada per il Rifugio'). Note that this road can be narrow and steep in sections, so drive carefully. Parking is available at the rifugio, but it may require a fee, so check locally for any parking charges.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, take a train to Aosta. From Aosta, you can catch a bus to Valsavarenche. The bus service may not be frequent, so check the local schedules in advance on the regional transport website. Upon arriving in Valsavarenche, you will need to walk about 2 km to the hamlet of Pont. From Pont, you can either hike or arrange for a taxi to take you the remaining 6 km to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II. Be prepared for a steep trail if you choose to hike, and ensure you have appropriate footwear.

• Hiking

  For those who prefer a more active approach, once you reach Pont, you can hike to the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II. The trail starts from Pont and ascends through beautiful alpine scenery. The hike is approximately 6 km and takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. The path is well-marked, but it's steep in sections, so ensure you have good hiking boots and sufficient water. Always check the weather conditions before heading out.
