Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are near the Lucca Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Martino), start by heading south on Via della Cavallerizza towards Piazza San Martino. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout at Piazza del Giglio. From there, exit the roundabout onto Via Vittorio Emanuele II. Follow this road until you reach the walls of Lucca. Enter through the main gate and walk along the top of the walls, which will provide a beautiful view of the city. Continue walking for approximately 15-20 minutes until you reach Porta a Lucca, which is a prominent entrance you will see along the walls.

    If you are starting from Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, exit the square and head towards Via Fillungo. Turn right onto Via Fillungo and continue until you reach the end of the street. Turn left onto Via San Paolino and walk straight until you reach the walls of Lucca. You can then either climb the stairs to the walls or walk around until you find an entrance. Once on the walls, walk towards Porta a Lucca, which is located at the northwestern part of the city walls, about a 15-minute walk from this point.
