Discover more about Castello di Compiano - Collezioni Museali

Castello di Compiano, located in the province of Parma, stands as a testament to centuries of history and art. Built before the year 1000, the castle has been under the rule of numerous noble families, including the Malaspina and Landi families. The Landi family controlled the area for over 400 years, and the castle even minted its own currency and opened state schools in its prime. Over the centuries, the castle has served many purposes, including a military fortress, a state prison, and a girls' orphanage. In 1966, Marchioness Lina Raimondi Gambarotta acquired the castle and transformed it into a house-museum, filling it with her collection of art and furniture. Today, visitors can explore the castle's three museums: the Casa Museo Raimondi Gambarotta, the Museo Massonico (Masonic Museum), and the Museo enogastronomico (Wine & Food Museum). The castle also functions as a hotel, restaurant, and venue for weddings and events. Visitors can explore the castle's grounds, including the gardens and the panoramic views of the Taro Valley. The guided tours, included in the admission ticket, provide access to the library, dining room, music room, and bedroom, offering a glimpse into the life of the Marchioness. The International Masonic Museum is the only museum of its kind in Italy, with relics of British and Italian Freemasonry.
