Constructed during the period of Mastino II della Scala in the 14th century, it underwent modifications by the Venetians in the second half of the 15th century. In 1536, Bishop Bernardo Clesio added his coat of arms to the gate. The gate was later restored in the second half of the 19th century. The gate's architecture showcases distinct features on its two facades. The northern facade is wider with two entrances, revealing spaces that once housed the mechanism for opening the gate. Above, arched windows overlook what was once the guard room, topped with battlements.
