    Discover more about Villa Panza

Villa Panza, located on Biumo Hill in Varese, is a unique destination where history and contemporary art intertwine. Built in the mid-1700s, the villa served as a country residence for Marquis Paolo Antonio Menafoglio. It later passed through several owners, including Duke Pompeo Litta Visconti Arese and the Panza family. Count Ernesto Panza commissioned architect Piero Portaluppi to restore and expand the villa, adding a new courtyard and redesigning the vast park in the English style. Giuseppe Panza transformed the villa into a showcase for his impressive collection of contemporary American art, acquiring over 150 works. The collection features artists known for their innovative use of light and space, such as Dan Flavin, James Turrell, and Robert Irwin. These works are seamlessly integrated into the villa's historic spaces, creating a dialogue between the past and present. The villa's U-shaped structure, typical of the period, is surrounded by a meticulously maintained garden. Today, Villa Panza is managed by the FAI, who preserve its original charm and cultural mission. Visitors can explore the historic interiors, contemporary art installations, and the expansive park. The villa also hosts temporary exhibitions and offers activities for all ages. Villa Panza is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
