    From Modena's train station, walk straight ahead through Piazza Dante Alighieri and turn onto Via Francesco Crispi. Continue onto Viale Vittorio Veneto, then turn left onto Viale Monte Kosica. At the roundabout, turn left onto Viale Berengario. Continue until you reach Largo di Porta Sant'Agostino, where the Palazzo dei Musei is located. The Galleria Estense is on the fourth floor. The walk is about 15-20 minutes.

    The Galleria Estense is located in the Palazzo dei Musei in Modena, Italy. It is home to the art collection of the Este family, who ruled Modena, Reggio, and Ferrara from 1289 to 1796. The gallery was established in 1854 by Francesco V of Austria-Este and moved to its current location in 1894. Since 2014, it has been part of the Gallerie Estensi, a group of museums that includes the Biblioteca Estense, the Estense Lapidary Museum, the Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo, and the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Ferrara. The Galleria Estense's collection includes paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries, sculptures, decorative arts, drawings, bronzes, majolica, medals, ivories, and musical instruments. Highlights include the marble bust of Francesco I d'Este by Bernini, the Portrait of Francesco I d'Este by Velázquez, and paintings by Correggio, El Greco, and Guido Reni. The gallery's collection reflects the tastes of the Este family, who were patrons of the arts. The Galleria Estense is open from Tuesday to Sunday. From Tuesday to Saturday, the gallery is open from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM. On Sundays and holidays, it is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The gallery is closed on January 1st and December 25th. Admission is €8, with reduced tickets available for those aged 18-25 for €2. Admission is free for those under 18. Free entry is available on the first Sunday of each month.
