Giardino del Cavaticcio: Bologna's Urban Oasis

Giardino del Cavaticcio, situated on Via Azzo Gardino in Bologna, is a unique park with a rich history. The park occupies the area of Bologna's ancient port, where the Cavaticcio canal once flowed, powering mills and workshops since the 12th century. The canal itself, possibly dating back to Roman times, was a vital waterway connected to the Navile canal system. Inaugurated in 2011 after extensive renovations, the park now blends green spaces with contemporary art. Visitors can explore sculptures by renowned artists like Arnaldo Pomodoro, Mimmo Paladino, and Gilberto Zorio. The Salara, a former salt warehouse and one of the few remaining buildings from the old port, now houses the Cassero LGBT Center.
