Palazzo Ferrari, located on the square's right side, features a notable 16th-century stone portal. The square also provides picturesque views of the Ghirlandina, Modena's iconic tower, framed by the square's trees.The square is named after Giacomo Matteotti, an Italian socialist politician assassinated by fascists in 1924.
