Meleto Castle, located near Gaiole in Chianti, boasts a storied past dating back to the 11th century. Initially a monastery under the Benedictine monks of Coltibuono Abbey, it transformed into a strategic military outpost. Its location along the border between Siena and Florence made it a key player in the conflicts between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. Over the centuries, the castle witnessed numerous battles, withstanding sieges and occupations. In 1478, it was seized by the Aragonese army, only to be reclaimed by the Florentines two years later.
