The Basilica della Santissima Trinità del Cancelliere, or Basilica della Magione, stands as a testament to Palermo's layered history and unique Arab-Norman architectural style. Founded in 1191 by Matteo d'Ajello, the chancellor of the Norman kingdom, it was initially connected to a Cistercian abbey. The church later came under the control of the Teutonic Knights in 1197, who expanded its influence. The basilica's exterior features a striking façade with three portals and a series of monofore windows. The central apse displays intricate interlaced arches, a hallmark of the period. Inside, the basilica is divided into three naves, showcasing a blend of Arab and Norman artistic elements. ogival windows and interlaced arcades in the apse further exemplify this fusion. Over the centuries, the basilica has undergone several transformations. In 1782, the Bourbons modernized the structure, incorporating neoclassical elements.
