Bus
From the central area of Pisa (e.g., Piazza dei Miracoli), walk to the nearest bus stop, which is 'Piazza Manin'. Take the bus number 5 towards 'Calci' and stay on the bus for about 30 minutes. Get off at the 'Calci' stop. From there, walk up Via Roma, which will lead you towards the Fortezza della Verruca. Follow the signs for about 1.5 kilometers uphill until you reach the castle.
Walking
If you prefer to walk, you can start from the center of Pisa, such as the Leaning Tower area. Head towards Via Santa Maria, then take Via dei Mille towards the hills. Continue on Via dei Mille which will turn into Via della Verruca. It's a steep walk, approximately 6 kilometers, so be prepared for a hike. Follow the path until you see the Fortezza della Verruca on your right.
Bicycle
For an adventurous option, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Pisa. From the city center, head towards the 'Ponte di mezzo', cross the bridge, and follow the signs that direct you to Calci. The route is approximately 6 kilometers and will take you through some beautiful scenery. Once you reach Calci, follow the signs to Fortezza della Verruca which is located on a hill overlooking the town.
