Walking
From the Pompeii Archaeological Park entrance, head east on Via Villa dei Misteri towards Via Plinio. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Via Roma. Turn left onto Via Roma and walk until you reach the Pompeii train station, which is about a 10-minute walk. From the train station, you can catch a train to Ercolano or Ottaviano. Make sure to check the train schedule. Once you arrive at Ottaviano station, exit the station and head north on Via Giuseppe Mazzini. Continue straight until you see signs for Mount Vesuvius. The hike to the summit of Mount Vesuvius starts from here.
Public Bus
From the center of Pompeii, walk to the main bus stop located near the Pompeii train station. Look for the SITA bus that goes to Vesuvius. The bus will take you directly to the Mount Vesuvius National Park entrance. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule as it can vary depending on the season. Once you arrive at the park entrance, follow the signs to the trailhead leading to the summit.
