Museo Luxoro, located in an elegant villa in Genoa's Nervi district, provides a unique glimpse into the world of 17th- and 18th-century Ligurian decorative arts. The museum is housed in a villa constructed in 1903, designed by Pietro Luxoro, and was bequeathed to the city of Genoa in 1946 by Matteo Luxoro. Matteo requested that the villa be transformed into a public museum in memory of his nephew, Giannettino Luxoro, who died during World War I.The museum's collection reflects the Luxoro family's passion for collecting, with a focus on Ligurian craftsmanship. Visitors can admire a variety of objects, including furniture, silverware, ceramics, and mirrors. A highlight of the museum is its collection of clocks, including sophisticated night clocks and pendulums. The museum also features a collection of Nativity scene figures, a popular tradition in Italy. The picture gallery contains notable works by Alessandro Magnasco, among others.The villa itself maintains the character of a private dwelling, offering visitors the sense of being guests in the home of an art-collecting family. The villa is surrounded by the lush greenery of Nervi's parks, providing a tranquil escape from the city.
