The Galleria Corsini is an outstanding gallerie located in the Palazzo Corsini, in the heart of the Trastevere district of Rome. It is part of the National Galleries of Ancient Art, together with the Palazzo Barberini, and houses a unique collection that has remained virtually unchanged since the 18th century. The Palazzo Corsini was originally built in 1511 by Cardinal Raffaele Riario. Between 1659 and 1689, it was the residence of Queen Christina of Sweden, who, after abdicating and converting to Catholicism, moved to Rome and used the palace as the seat of her intellectual circle. In 1736, during the pontificate of Clement XII (Lorenzo Corsini), the Corsini family acquired the palace and established its art collection. This collection, donated to the Italian State in 1883, forms the nucleus of the Galleria Corsini. The gallery is the only collection from the 18th century in Rome to be preserved in its original layout. After a recent restructuring, the works have been reorganized according to the inventory of 1771, allowing visitors to experience the halls of an 18th century cardinal.
