Train
From Rome, head to Termini Station, the main train station in the city. Purchase a ticket for the railway service directed to Albano Laziale. The train ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Albano Laziale station, exit the station and follow the signs for buses. Take the local bus (line C2) that goes to Castel Gandolfo. After approximately 15 minutes on the bus, disembark at the Piazza della Libertà stop, which is right in front of Palazzo Pontificio.
Bus
From Termini Station, walk to the nearby bus terminal and catch the Cotral bus to Castel Gandolfo. The journey takes about 50 minutes and offers scenic views of the countryside. Make sure to get off at the Piazza della Libertà stop, which is directly adjacent to Palazzo Pontificio.
Taxi
If you prefer not to take public transport, you can hire a taxi from any location in Rome. Just ask the driver to take you to Piazza della Libertà in Castel Gandolfo. The trip will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
Walking from Castel Gandolfo
If you find yourself in Castel Gandolfo, the Palazzo Pontificio is easily accessible on foot. From the center of the town, head towards the main square, Piazza della Libertà. The palace is prominently located there, and you can’t miss it.
