Walking
If you are near the Vatican City, start by walking towards the Vatican Museums. From there, exit onto Viale Vaticano and continue straight until you reach Piazza San Pietro (St. Peter's Square). Once at the square, walk past the Basilica and take the first right onto Via della Conciliazione. Continue along this road, which will lead you directly to Castel Sant'Angelo, located on your left at Lungotevere Castello, 50.
Metro
Take Line A of the Metro (the orange line) and get off at the Ottaviano station. Exit the station and head towards Vatican City via Via Ottaviano. Once you reach Vatican City, follow the same directions as in the walking option above, heading towards Piazza San Pietro and then onto Via della Conciliazione to reach Castel Sant'Angelo.
Bus
Look for bus stops near your location that serve routes 23, 280, or 30. Board any of these buses and get off at the stop 'Piazza Pia', which is located near the entrance to Castel Sant'Angelo. From the bus stop, walk a short distance towards the river, and you will see Castel Sant'Angelo ahead.
Tram
If you are near the Trastevere area, you can take Tram Line 8 towards Piazza Venezia. Get off at the stop 'Piazza Venezia.' From there, walk towards Via del Corso, then take a left turn onto Via dei Fori Imperiali, which will lead you to the Tiber River. Cross the river via the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge, and you will arrive at Castel Sant'Angelo directly.
Bicycle
If you are comfortable riding a bicycle, rent one from a nearby rental station. Start from the historic center and head towards the Tiber River. Follow the riverbank bike path upstream until you reach Castel Sant'Angelo. The path is scenic and offers beautiful views of the river and the city.
Use Castel Sant'Angelo as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
