If you are near the Vatican City, start at St. Peter's Basilica. Exit the basilica and head towards the colonnade (the large columns surrounding the square). Continue walking straight ahead towards the left side of the colonnade. After about a 3-minute walk, you will reach Largo del Colonnato, which is a small square located at the end of the colonnade.

Exit the station and head towards Via Ottaviano. Continue straight until you reach St. Peter's Square.
