From the main square, Piazza della Cisterna, head northwest towards Via San Giovanni. Continue straight until you reach Via delle Rompete. Take a right on Via delle Rompete and follow it until you arrive at the intersection with Via San Matteo. Turn left onto Via San Matteo and walk towards the city walls. You'll find the entrance to the Oltrarno area as you approach the historic city walls and the Arno River.
