Walking
From the central Piazza Tasso in Sorrento, head east on Via Luigi de Maio. Continue straight until you reach the end of the street. At the intersection, turn left onto Via San Cesareo and walk until you reach the main road, Corso Italia. Cross Corso Italia and continue onto Via degli Aranci. Follow this road as it curves and becomes Via Capasso. After approximately 1 kilometer, you will reach the Sorrento train station. From there, take a Circumvesuviana train towards Naples and get off at Ercolano. Once you arrive in Ercolano, exit the train station and follow signs to the Vesuvio. The hike to the crater is about 30 minutes on foot from the station.
Public Transport
Begin at the Sorrento train station. Purchase a ticket for the Circumvesuviana train towards Naples. Board the train and stay on for 15 minutes, getting off at the Ercolano station. Once you exit the train, look for local buses that go to Mount Vesuvius. The bus stop is located right outside the train station. Take the bus that states 'Vesuvio' on its route. The bus will take you directly to the entrance of the Vesuvius National Park, where you can start your hike.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from Sorrento to Mount Vesuvius. Head to the taxi stand located near the central Piazza Tasso. Ask the driver to take you to Vesuvius. The journey will take around 30 minutes, depending on traffic. The taxi will drop you off at the entrance of the Vesuvius National Park, where you can start your hike to the crater.
