Travel Guide to Fort Goldsee

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey in any town in Val Venosta. Head towards the town of Stilfs (also known as Stelvio) via the SS38 highway. Follow the signs for Stilfs, and once you reach the town, look for signs directing you to the Stelvio Pass. Continue driving for about 15 minutes until you reach the designated parking area near the trailhead for Fort Goldsee. Please note that parking might incur a small fee, usually around €5 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a regional train to the nearest station, which is in the town of Silandro. From Silandro, you can catch a local bus towards Stilfs. Check the local bus schedules, as they may vary. Once you arrive in Stilfs, you will need to walk towards the Stelvio Pass. The walk to Fort Goldsee from the bus stop is approximately 1 hour along a well-marked trail. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as the hike can be moderately challenging.

• Hiking

  Once you reach the trailhead near Stilfs, the hike to Fort Goldsee is about 1 hour along an easy path. Follow the marked signs that guide you towards the fortress. The path is scenic and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Make sure to allocate enough time for the return trip as well. It's advisable to start your hike early in the day to ensure you have ample daylight for your return.
