Car
If you are driving, start from the main road in the John Crow Mountains area. Head towards the A4 road and follow the signs for the Blue Mountains. After approximately 10 kilometers, turn onto a smaller road that leads towards the Juan de Bolas Mountain trailhead. Be aware that the roads can be narrow and winding, so drive cautiously. There is limited parking at the trailhead, so arrive early to secure a spot.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Kingston to the town of Mavis Bank. From Mavis Bank, you can hire a local taxi to take you to the trailhead of Juan de Bolas Mountain. The taxi ride will cost approximately JMD 1500 - JMD 2000, depending on the driver. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The taxi may drop you off near the entrance of the trail, after which you will need to hike on foot to reach the peak.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the trailhead, prepare for a hike. The trail to Juan de Bolas Mountain is about 4 kilometers long and can take around 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring plenty of water. The trail is marked, but be cautious of uneven terrain and loose rocks. Follow the path that leads up through the forest until you reach the summit, which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
