Getting There

  • Driving

    Access to Cockpit Country is limited, with no roads traversing the interior. The most common approach is from the south via Accompong, a Maroon settlement. From Maggotty, take the road north towards Accompong. The road is narrow and winding, so exercise caution. There are no tolls. Parking is available in Accompong, typically for a small fee (approx. JMD 500). Alternatively, from the north, you can drive from Clarks Town towards the western edge of the Cockpits ending in the Albert Town area.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Cockpit Country via public transport, take a bus from Kingston to Mandeville, then a taxi or local bus to Accompong. From Montego Bay, take a bus to Falmouth and then arrange for a taxi or local guide. Be prepared for a potentially long and bumpy ride. Bus fares from Kingston to Mandeville are approximately JMD 800-1200. Taxi fares from Mandeville to Accompong can range from JMD 3000-5000. Always negotiate the fare beforehand.
