Discover more about Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower, officially named Japan Radio Tower, is a communications and observation tower in Shiba-koen, Minato, Tokyo. Completed in 1958, it served as a symbol of Japan's recovery and modernization after World War II. Designed by Tachū Naitō, the lattice tower draws inspiration from the Eiffel Tower but incorporates unique Japanese elements. Standing at 333 meters (1,092 ft), it was the tallest structure in Japan until 2012 when the Tokyo Skytree was built. The tower is painted in international orange and white to comply with air safety regulations. Tokyo Tower's main sources of revenue are tourism and antenna leasing. It transmits radio, television, and traffic information signals. It also collects weather and air pollution data. FootTown, a four-story building at the base of the tower, offers a variety of attractions, including restaurants, shops, museums, and galleries. Visitors can ascend to two observation decks: the Main Deck at 150 meters and the Top Deck at 250 meters, for panoramic views of Tokyo. On a clear day, you can spot the Tokyo Skytree and Mount Fuji in the distance. The Main Deck features "lookdown windows" for a thrilling view straight down. Throughout the year, Tokyo Tower hosts illuminations and events, creating a festive atmosphere. In winter, millions of lights transform the tower into a magical spectacle. Visitors can climb the 600 steps to the Main Deck for a unique experience. Nearby attractions include Zojoji Temple, Shiba Park, and Atago Shrine.
