Public Transport
From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano/San-in Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station. The train ride takes approximately 15-20 minutes and costs ¥200-¥280. From Saga-Arashiyama Station, it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the bamboo grove. Alternatively, take the Kyoto City Bus #28 from Kyoto Station to the Arashiyama-Tenryuji Mae bus stop. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes and costs ¥230. From there, it's a short walk to the grove. Another option is the Keifuku Arashiyama Line (Randen) from Omiya Station in Kyoto to Randen Arashiyama Station. The train ride takes 20 minutes. It is about a 10-minute walk from the Randen Arashiyama Station to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. This option is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass.

From the main street in Arashiyama, walk north towards Tenryu-ji Temple. The bamboo grove entrance is a short distance north of the temple's entrance. Alternatively, enter Tenryu-ji Temple (¥500 for the garden, additional ¥300 to access the main temple building) and exit through the north gate, which leads directly into the bamboo grove.

Taxis are available from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The ride takes approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs around ¥3,400-¥5,000. Taxis can be found at the taxi stand outside the station.
