Discover more about Tottori Castle Ruins

The Tottori Castle Ruins, also known as Kyusho Park, offer a captivating journey into Japan's feudal past. Originally constructed in 1532, the castle served as a vital regional power center during the tumultuous Sengoku period. Later, it became the seat of the Ikeda Clan during the Edo Period. The castle is famous for the 200-day siege in 1581, when the forces inside were forced to surrender due to starvation. Unfortunately, like many structures of its kind, Tottori Castle fell victim to the modernization policies of the Meiji Period and was subsequently destroyed. Today, visitors can explore the remaining stone walls and a single wooden gate, climbing through the castle courtyards to an observation point with stunning views of Tottori City. Kyusho Park is also known as one of the region's best cherry blossom viewing spots, with approximately 240 Somei Yoshino cherry trees blooming in the spring. The combination of the castle's stone walls and cherry blossoms creates a beautiful scene, especially during the nighttime illuminations and food stalls during the blooming season. The park is also a popular spot for autumn leaves. Also located in the area is Jinpukaku, a beautiful two-story house designed by architect Katayama Tokuma. The park also contains the Prefectural Museum, where you can explore the history of Tottori Prefecture and learn about the area's popular local arts and crafts.
