Getting There

Public Transport

From Tokyo Station, take the Yokosuka Line to Zushi Station (approx. 1 hour). From Zushi Station, take Keikyu Bus #11 bound for Fukushi Bunka Kaikan and get off at Sangaoka bus stop (approx. 15 minutes), then walk for 1 minute. Bus fare is approximately ¥400. A Hayama Excursion Ticket can provide a cost-effective way to travel from Shinagawa Station, including round-trip transportation and unlimited bus rides in the Zushi-Hayama area.
Walking

Hayama Shiosai Park is a short walk from Isshiki Kaigan bus stop. From the bus stop, follow the signs to the park entrance. The walk is generally flat and easy.
Car

From Hakone, take Route 1 south towards Odawara, then follow signs for Route 135. Continue on Route 135 until you see signs for Hayama. Turn onto Route 32 and follow the signs to Hayama Shiosai Park. Parking is available at the park for approximately ¥500.

Hayama Shiosai Park is a tranquil oasis on the coast of Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, steeped in history and natural beauty. The park's origins lie in its past as part of the Hayama Imperial Villa, a retreat favored by members of the Imperial Family since 1894. The villa itself was a place of convalescence for Emperor Taisho, and later, Emperor Showa (Hirohito) conducted marine biology research here.Opened to the public in 1987, the park retains the elegance of a traditional Japanese garden. Visitors can stroll through meticulously landscaped grounds featuring pine trees, maple trees, and seasonal flowers. A charming pond with carp, a stone bridge, and a three-meter waterfall add to the picturesque scenery. The park is particularly renowned for its hydrangeas, which bloom in vibrant colors. From the black pine forest, you can enjoy views of Mount Fuji and the Izu Peninsula.The Hayama Shiosai Museum within the park showcases Emperor Hirohito's collection of marine specimens from Sagami Bay, reflecting his passion for marine biology. This unique collection provides insights into the diverse marine life of the area. Two teahouses, Shiomitei and Ikkei'an, offer visitors a place to rest and enjoy refreshments. Shiomitei was built in 1993 to commemorate the marriage of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako.
