Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Sapporo. Take the Hokkaido Expressway (道央自動車道) towards Asahikawa. The drive will take approximately 2 hours. Once you reach Asahikawa, take the Asahikawa-Takasu Road (旭川高砂道路) and follow signs for Asahiyama Zoo. There is parking available at the zoo, which costs around 500 yen per day.
Public Transportation (Train + Bus)
If you prefer public transportation, take a train from Sapporo Station to Asahikawa Station. The Limited Express train (特急) takes approximately 1.5 hours and costs around 4,300 yen. Upon arrival at Asahikawa Station, head to the bus terminal located adjacent to the station. Take the Asahikawa City Bus (旭川市営バス) Route 1 or Route 2, which directly takes you to Asahiyama Zoo. The bus ride takes about 40-50 minutes, and the fare is around 650 yen.
Public Transportation (Bus)
Alternatively, if you're in Sapporo, you can also take a direct bus to Asahikawa. There are highway buses (高速バス) that run between Sapporo and Asahikawa, taking approximately 2 hours. The ticket costs around 2,500 yen. Once you arrive at Asahikawa, transfer to the local bus as described above to reach Asahiyama Zoo.
