    Getting There

    Public Transport

    From Minami-Morimachi Station (Osaka Metro Tanimachi and Sakaisuji Lines), walk approximately 15 minutes north. Alternatively, from Sakuranomiya Station (JR Osaka Loop Line), exit the station, cross Genpachi Bridge, follow the river south, and cross the silver bridge. The Mint Museum will be on your left. Osaka city buses also operate in the area. A flat fare of ¥210 for adults and ¥110 for children applies. Consider purchasing an Enjoy Eco Card for unlimited use of Osaka Metro and Osaka City Bus lines for one day (¥820 for adults on weekdays, ¥620 on weekends and holidays; ¥310 for children).

    Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Osaka. A short taxi ride from Osaka Station to the Mint Museum will cost approximately ¥800-¥1200, depending on traffic conditions and the exact route. Note that there is no dedicated parking at the Mint Museum.

    From Osaka Tenmangu Shrine, walk east along the Okawa River for approximately 15 minutes. The Mint Museum will be on your right. Enjoy the scenic riverside walk.

Established in 1969 within a refurbished 1911 red brick building that once served as a power plant, the museum houses over 4,000 exhibits related to the production and evolution of coinage in Japan.The museum's exhibits showcase a wide array of historical artifacts, including ancient coins, foreign currencies, and examples of minting technology. Visitors can learn about the history of the Japan Mint, examine historical documents, and understand the close relationship between coins and Japanese society. Interactive exhibits, such as the chance to lift a senryo-bako chest filled with replica gold coins, provide an engaging experience for visitors of all ages.Beyond its monetary exhibits, the Mint Museum is also known for its architectural significance. The museum building itself is the only Western-style brick structure from the Meiji era remaining on the Mint premises. The museum is also famous for its cherry blossoms, with over 300 cherry trees of various types planted on the grounds. During one week each spring, the Mint opens its grounds to the public for cherry blossom viewing, creating a stunning tunnel of pink and white blossoms.
