Having a private guide (Teppei) made the entire day feel incredibly personal, safe, and stress-free for a mother-daughter duo.Our guide was fantastic—exceptionally informative and deeply knowledgeable about the area's rich history. They brought the mountain to life by sharing captivating legends about the mystical Tengu forest spirits, the ancient samurai training grounds, and the spiritual roots of the temples.The hike itself was perfectly paced. Our guide was incredibly mindful of our comfort, ensuring we never felt rushed and had plenty of time to take photos, enjoy the crisp mountain air, and absorb the serene atmosphere. If you want a seamless, deeply enriching bonding experience that gets you away from the city crowds, I cannot recommend this private tour enough.

Hiking Tour for Sacred Sites in Kyoto with a Guide

Good pace, idilic nature walk and knowledgeable guide.

Our tour guide, Mark, was lovely and very knowledgeable about the region we were visiting as well as Kyoto in general. The hike to Mt Kurama down to Kibune was wonderful. Well paced, and both my 15 and 7 year olds were able to keep up with the pace and stayed engaged engaged. Although it was raining, we had a magical time there, hearing birds singing while walking through the forest and watching the water streams and we hiked through Japanese cedar forest. Also enjoyed Soba noodles lunch, Mark recommended. We look forward to having more visits in the future in the region.

Being able to see the mountaibs and explore the palaces was a very beautiful and life changing experience. I loved our guide Etsuka Nakaba was so sweet and kind and couldn’t have a better guide. We loved visiting Japan as a whole and loved this experience.
