Getting There

  • Public Transportation

    If you're in Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano Line (also known as the JR Sanin Line) towards Saga-Arashiyama. The train runs frequently, approximately every 15-20 minutes. After about 15 minutes, get off at Saga-Arashiyama Station. From the station, it's a 20-minute walk to Hōrin-ji. Exit the station and head towards the main street (Arashiyama Station Road). Turn left and follow it until you reach the bridge over the Hozu River. Cross the bridge, then continue straight until you see the signs for Hōrin-ji on your right.

    From central Kyoto, head west towards the Arashiyama area. If you're using a GPS, enter 'Hōrin-ji Temple' or the address 'Arashiyama Kokuzoyamacho, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-0006'. Follow Route 162, which will take you directly to Arashiyama. Look for parking lots near the town center, as parking can be limited. After parking, it's a short walk to Hōrin-ji. Simply head towards the main attractions of Arashiyama, and Hōrin-ji is located on Kokuzoyamacho street, marked with signs.
