Gion Night Walk with a Former History Teacher
Great tour of Gion area temples and shrines, with history and cultural lessons.
An excellent tour, our guide Tatsuya was very knowledgeable and engaging. At the outset of the tour, he asked us what our interests were about Kyoto and Japan, this allowed us to have a more tailored experience to our interests. Being a former history teacher, Tatsuya did an amazing job explaining the history of the Kyoto temples and shrines, and the beliefs of Shintoism and Buddhism. The walk around the quiet roads and alleyways of the Gion District was very interesting, and it was fascinating learning the history of the area and practices of the Geisha. We especially liked participating in a short meditation in the shadow of the oldest Zen Buddhist temple in Japan. All in all it was a great tour and highly recommended.

Private Kiyomizu-dera & Gion Tour with Kimono Option – 3 Hours
5 Star Guide with a 1 star Company
THE BAD: We showed up on time for our private tour, and no guide! We reached out to the company, but got no reply via the app, WhatsApp, or phone. We contacted Viator, but they received no response from the company either. More than half an hour later, the tour company messaged us via WhatsApp and told us there was an emergency and they were getting us a new guide. Before this, every other guide for every private tour confirmed the day before. Not this time. They said the tour would now start at 1100, then 1130. We reluctantly agreed. As if we had a choice. THE GOOD: The guide who did the tour was OUTSTANDING! His name was ANDY. He was terrific. SUPER knowledgeable. He took us to a temple off the tour, which was fabulous. OVERALL: The tour was great; the stops were wonderful; the guide was EXCELLENT. The experience was marred by poor handling and customer service by the company. I highly recommend the tour; I am reluctant to recommend this company.

Professional, prepared and passionate!
Super professional and prepared guide! He made us live a beautiful Japanese experience in the Gion and Pontocho district... with the group of tourists we renamed him Alberto Angela! Thanks again and see you next time!
