Getting There

Walking
From the Keifuku Arashiyama Station, exit and walk north for about 5 minutes. The temple entrance will be on your left, just past the bamboo grove. From JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, walk east for about 10-15 minutes. The path is well-marked with signs in English. No costs are involved.

Public Transport
From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station (approx. 10 minutes, covered by the JR Pass if applicable). From there, walk 10-15 minutes to Tenryu-ji Temple. Alternatively, take Kyoto City Bus numbers 11, 28, or 93 to Arashiyama Tenryu-ji Mae bus stop, a few minutes' walk from the temple. The bus fare is ¥230 for adults and ¥120 for children within the city center.

Taxis are readily available from Kyoto Station. A taxi ride to Tenryu-ji Temple takes approximately 12 minutes and costs between ¥3,300 and ¥4,100. Taxis can also be flagged down on the street. The base fare for a taxi in Kyoto is ¥490.
