Car
From Mikawa, head northeast on Route 19 towards Kiso. Follow Route 19 until you reach the junction at Kiso, then take Route 361 towards Nojiri. Continue along Route 361 for approximately 30 minutes. Look for signs directing you to Atera Valley (Atera-dani) as you drive through Nojiri. Once you arrive at the valley, there should be designated parking areas available for visitors.
Public Transportation
Start your journey by taking a train from Mikawa Station to Kiso-Fukushima Station. The train ride takes about 30 minutes. From Kiso-Fukushima Station, you can take a local bus (Atera Line) that goes directly to Atera Valley. The bus ride will take approximately 40 minutes, and be sure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may be limited. The bus will drop you off near the entrance to the valley.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route without public transport, you can hire a taxi from Mikawa. The taxi ride to Atera Valley will take about 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around ¥8,000 to ¥10,000 for the fare. Make sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
